Concern over downtown Auburn parking changes prompts presentation to city council

Auburn city councilors will hear a presentation on plans to repave Genesee Street, which will include a change to back-in parking spaces downtown, during Thursday’s meeting.

City council approved the funding for the project in February and the presentation has been requested by the council after concerns over the parking change arose.

Currently, parking on Genesse Street is front angle parking, meaning cars pull into the spaces and then back out of them to leave. The city, complying with state Department of Transportation regulations, wants to change the parking to back-in angle parking, meaning drivers will have to back their cars into the spots. This kind of parking is safer when pulling out on to a busy street.
