After a campaign several years long to bring ride-sharing services to upstate New York, Uber and Lyft will finally be allowed to operate in counties throughout the state as soon as early July.
However, some county and municipal governments are still learning about regulations and may decide against letting ride-sharing companies operate in their areas.
Any county or municipality with a population of at least 100,000 residents, which includes Tompkins County, will be able to decide whether to accept state provisions or to opt out of allowing Uber to operate in their jurisdiction.
