If you’re looking for something to do on Friday, May 26 from 5 pm to 8 pm; Lyons will be the place to be.
The downtown business community will be kicking off their first Lyons Night Out for 2017 featuring Two Herons Drum Circle and a Karaoke Contest with a $200 prize.
Friday’s event will be the first of six Lyons Night Out events planned this year for the fourth Friday of each month (May through October). Two Herons Drum Circle, a volunteer based organization that uses percussion to inspire positive rhythms and actions to bring communities closer together, will perform from 5pm to 6:30pm outside the Ohmann Theatre on William Street.
“We participate in a number of events ranging from open and facilitated drum circles, street performances and community services actions,” explained Adam Fryer, director. “It’s a unique interactive musical experience that has many personal benefits like reducing stress, controlling chronic pain and boosting your immune system.
The Karaoke Contest will kick off at 6:30 pm outside Mi Café Coffee Shop and Wine Bar on Canal Street. Sponsors say they currently have 10 contestants and can take a few more.
“The contest is just a way to celebrate some of the hidden talent in our area,” says Claribel Oliveras, Owner of Mi Café. “It’s a way to promote our business and the other downtown businesses. We hope the community will come out and participate and celebrate each other and just have some fun.
“The $200 grand prize is just an added bonus to reward the best talent of the evening!” Oliveras says they plan to stream the contest live on their Facebook page: fb.com/micafeLyons.
In addition to the drum circle and karaoke contest community members will be encouraged to visit the other local businesses; most will have special sales and promotions for the evening. A list of businesses is available on the Lyons Night Out website, www.LyonsNightOut.com.
The Lyons Night Out events are organized by the Lyons Main Street Program, a community-based organization established in 2008 to provide support for local businesses and to help preserve and promote the rich heritage of Lyons New York as seen in the historic buildings, the Erie Canal and the beauty of the landscape.
