Goodbye to Yellow Pages? Phone company says not yet

Old-school phone books, once headed for history’s dustbin, have new life.

For now.

Earlier this year, Frontier Communications sought permission from the New York state Public Service Commission to end the mass delivery of the Yellow Pages business listings book to its customers in Rochester and beyond.

In a written filing, the company argued there was limited interest in printed directories in this, the digital age. Given that many customers throw the volumes in the recycling bin or the trash can, Frontier also said mass distribution of the books are environmentally wasteful. Frontier was given approval five years ago to end mass delivery of its residential White Pages directories.
