Keuka commemorates visits by MLK and Eleanor Roosevelt with unveiling of sculptures

Two of the most historic events in the 127-year history of Keuka College are commemorated in a new exhibit that was unveiled Friday afternoon.

Visits to the college on the shore of Keuka Lake by civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and social justice pioneer and first lady Eleanor Roosevelt are celebrated in the exhibit, which includes larger-than-life bronze busts of the two icons.

“They were beacons of hope and clarity during dark times in our nation’s history,” college President Jorge Díaz-Herrera said during the ceremony. “We’re here to commemorate these inspirational visits, arguably the two most transformational moments in Keuka College history.”
