Cooler and showery in the Finger Lakes behind storms

Tuesday will be cool and showery with some gusty winds during the afternoon and early evening hours.

An area of low pressure is spinning across the Great Lakes this morning as it heads slowly to the northeast. This system drove a powerful cold front through the region last night and was responsible for the severe weather.

Today, the Finger Lakes will be on the cool side of this system. Much cooler air is filtering into the region on west-southwest winds.

Temperatures are starting the day near 50 degrees, but will only rise to the mid and upper 50s this afternoon.

A gusty wind will develop this afternoon as well. The strongest winds will be from Rochester west, where gusts could top 50 mph at times. The northeastern Finger Lakes will see the lightest winds, with top gusts round 35 mph.

On and off shower activity will develop later this morning and persist through the afternoon and overnight. These clouds and showers will keep temperatures in the 40s tonight.

Wednesday, the region should dry out and the sun will return before the day ends. Temperatures will only reach the mid 50s and then will drop rapidly after sunset.

By Thursday morning, some areas of frost will be possible as morning lows dip into the low and mid 30s.
