Local agriculture businesses look for global opportunities

The Technology Farm in Geneva will host a free seminar on Thursday, May 4 at 9 a.m. for New York agriculture companies of all sizes to look at opportunities for future global sales and supply chain savings. Global movement of agricultural products is challenging, but this seminar will introduce resources that help companies successfully and profitably export and import.

Presenters are from U.S. Dept. of Commerce, Food Export USA – Northeast, U.S. SBA, NY Dept. of Agriculture and Markets (NYAM), Empire State Development (ESD), Global NY, Brockport – Small Business Development Center, and Foreign-Trade Zone 289. Attendees invited are professionals from corporate or private farms (profit or non-profit) that produce dairy products, livestock, poultry, vegetable, fruits, grains, or other such commodities. Also invited are value-added food manufacturers, beverage producers, i.e. vineyards, breweries, cideries & distilleries, growth enhancement product manufacturers, farm processors, suppliers, vendors, wholesalers, transporters or other interested parties.

Topics focus on programs with long-term strategies for global growth. Ben Cortese of Food Export – Northeast will discuss the USDA’s export promotion programs for New York companies to enter and succeed in foreign markets. Some eligible products are beer, wine, distilled beverages, value-added foods and other agricultural-related products. Stefan Fleming of ESD, Beverage Program and Sue Santamarina, Business Marketing Program Analyst from NYAM, will also discuss ag programs at the state level.

“This is a great opportunity to coalesce around the agriculture industry,” states Tim McCall of DOC, Rochester Office. “We will show attendees many programs that offer financial incentive and assistance to ag businesses.”
