Public split on proposed Dryden solar projects

Supporters and opponents of two proposed solar projects in the town of Dryden spent nearly three hours sharing their opinions with the town board Wednesday night during a public hearing.

The consensus following the conclusion of the near four-hour special session? There is no consensus.

About 70 people spoke during the public hearing at Neptune Fire Hall. Although there appeared to be equal amounts of support and opposition, the discussion remained civil as community members passionately voiced their views.

“We’re talking about something that ought to be compromised,” said Mike Lane, a Dryden resident who is also chair of the Tompkins County Legislature. “Nobody is against solar, solar is a good thing.”
