State Police say a 52-year-old Newfield man was killed Friday after he lost control of his motorcycle.
Crews were called to the area of 1956 West Danby Rd. after receiving the report of a motorcycle crash around 3 pm.
When they arrived on scene, the found that the driver of the motorcycle was ejected from the bike — and struck a wooden post. He was wearing a helmet, but died due to the injuries sustained during the wreck.
The victim was identified as Zane Cotto, 52, of Newfield. He was the only individual involved in the accident.
Zone Sgt. Kelly Daley told the Ithaca Voice that, “He was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed and lost control around a curve.”
Bangs Ambulance assisted the State Police on scene.
It was the first, of two fatal motorcycle accidents over the weekend in the Finger Lakes. A crash just outside of Auburn left a Weedsport man dead after he lost control of his bike.
