MAJOR DRUG BUST: 73 baggies of heroin, 51 Alprazolam pills seized

Deputies in Seneca County arrested Derek M. Mehlenbacher, 24, of Waterloo and Cheyann M. Saunders, 21, of Seneca Falls on April 19th after a drug investigation.

Investigators say that two weeks ago, deputies received a tip of heroin laced with the narcotic drug fentanyl being sold in Seneca County. As those investigators progressed — a search warrant was obtained.

Investigators and deputies conducted a traffic stop on State Route 96 in Waterloo, which resulted in a large amount of heroin being seized.

They say the heroin was found after the search warrant was executed.

Deputies say that 73 baggies of heroin were seized and 51 Alprazolam pills were also located and intended for sale in the county.

Mehlenbacher was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance — a Class B felony, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance — a Class D felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Saunders was charged with third-degree criminal posssession of a controlled substance, as well. That is a Class B felony.

Both were arraigned in Junius Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 secured bond — and $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 secured bond respectively.

The investigation into the fentanyl portion of the case is ongoing.
