Ontario County EQ Committee OKs intermunicipal agreements for SWMP activities

The 16 towns and two cities in Ontario County can apply for grants to do one or more of eight possible solid waste management practices.

The grants are based on the population of the municipality in relation to the county population.

The money is from the $1.3 million the county receives annually from Casella Waste Services, operator of the county landfill, for the next 14 years as a consequence of the state Department of Environmental Conservation awarding the county and Casella a permit to contract a 43.5-acre expansion within the existing footprint of the county-owned landfill.

The Planning and Environmental Quality Committee of the Supervisors voted 5-0 Monday to approve the wording of inter-municipal agreements between the county, towns or cities for activities included in the county’s 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan.
