The Geneva Housing Authority is getting some help from the Senate minority leader to ensure its plan to renovate two housing complexes stays on track.
Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to review and approve the Housing Authority’s request for a sixth-month extension to shore up financing for renovations to Elmcrest and Courtyard apartments.
In a letter to HUD Secretary Ben Carson, Schumer said the extension is necessary as the Housing Authority waits to find out what funding will be allocated in the New York state budget for public housing, as well as giving authority officials time to apply for low-income housing tax credits.
The housing authority has been working on plans for the two properties, which are in dire need of repair and are now home to seniors and low-income residents.
