Experts raising concern about ticks after mild winter

A return to warm weather is triggering a warning for those spending time outdoors.

A growing tick population is causing some concerns. Experts say the mild winter prevented the hard freeze, which typically kills off a lot of ticks from the year before. Now, they say it’s important to be on the lookout if you spend a lot of time outdoors.

“The ticks have been getting worse and worse, and we’ve had a couple of friends have issues with Lyme disease,” said Heather Walter, who took her seven-month-old to the park for the first time Monday. Joe Koval, who works for Mosquito Squad, is worried about what the next few months could bring.
