Waterloo officials seek funds for women’s shelter

Village officials plan to submit a request to the state Office of Community Renewal to release a $555,000 Community Development Block Grant.

The grant would go toward the rehabilitation of the former St. Mary’s Convent at 23 Center St. into a nine-bedroom home for homeless women.

The request will be submitted Wednesday.

But first, an Environmental Review Record for the project is on file at the Village Municipal Building, 41 W. Main St., and may be examined or copied from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Public comments may be submitted in writing on the Environmental Review Record by Tuesday and will be considered by village officials prior to their submission of the request for release of funds.
