The Founders Square Neighborhood Association is starting a new yoga and meditation program in Jefferson Park. The free “Yoga in the Park” program will start at 2 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of every month, starting April 23, 2017, and ending Oct. 22, 2017.
These sessions are open to people of all ages and fitness levels and will last about an hour. Don’t have a yoga mat or experience? No problem. The program has yoga kits and water to use while there.
Katelyn Berry, a downtown Geneva resident and certified yoga instructor, will lead the classes. Berry will incorporate gentle, lengthening movements and deep breathing to create full awareness of participants’ body, breath and mind. Berry will lead a brief meditation at the end of the class, helping participants “further a deep sense of calm and connection with their inner self,” she said.
“This is a great opportunity for those who are both experienced and new to yoga, of all ages, to invite peace into their lives with an open, positive perspective, allowing for deeper, more meaningful experiences,” Berry said. “I’m looking forward to sharing this space with you all!”
The free yoga program and equipment were made possible by an Excellus BlueCross BlueShield grant. The classes are also in partnership with Geneva Community Projects.
