A Steuben County woman has been charged with manslaughter as an investigation into the death of her then-newborn child continues more than three years after the tragedy.
Britney Updyke, 30, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child, according to State Police, who have been handling the investigation.
Investigators say the infant’s cause of death was due to a combination of fentanyl and bath salts, which stemmed from Updyke’s own drug use during the child’s birth.
She was arrested on Tuesday and State Police made the arrest after an indictment was handed down out of Steuben County Court.
Updyke was released on her own recognizance, according to police and will appear in court at a later date.
