Wolcott seeks wetlands permit for sewer district

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking public comment on this Wayne County town’s application for a freshwater wetlands permit.

The town is seeking the permit for the Joint Port Bay Sewer District in Wolcott and Huron, an area that would encompass multiple roads surrounding Port Bay. Failing septic systems would be replaced with sanitary sewers tied into the village of Wolcott wastewater treatment plant.

Wolcott’s plant is being decommissioned and turned into a pump station. It will pump the sewage to the Red Creek wastewater treatment plant for treatment and discharge.

The project includes crossing 0.7 acres of regulated wetlands.

The DEC has made a tentative determination to issue the permit. However, it wants a plan to address impacts of the drilling through the wetlands to place the sewer lines, and is seeking comment prior to making a final decision.
