New York is distributing $45 million to New York City and 57 counties to improve emergency communication systems, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced this week.
New York City will get nearly $5.7 million. In central New York, Onondaga County was awarded more than $1.4 million. The grant for Cayuga County totaled $838,244.
The governor's office said the grants will enable municipalities to bolster emergency response systems and implement new 911 technology. "In an emergency, every second counts," Cuomo said in a statement. "This critical funding will improve the quality and efficiency of emergency response capabilities across New York, while supporting the brave first responders who put their lives on the line every day to protect their neighbors and their community."
