Geneva Citizens Planning Academy sprouts ideas

One of the city’s new “academies,” as part of a civic engagement effort, is sprouting tangible initiatives.

The Citizens Planning Academy began in February and drew 17 members for seven weeks. The group’s final formal class was last Monday, but “the members of this class will be continuing this work by taking on projects that inspire them and forward the city’s comprehensive plan,” said Rhonda Everdyke, the city’s director of Communications and Engagement.

Some of the potential projects include an art co-op space and programming, an urban garden, and an apprenticeship program in building trades targeted to also improve homes in the community.
