At current disposal rates, the Ontario County Landfill has 11 more years of capacity. What to do with the 379-acre landfill on Routes 5&20 in the town of Seneca after 2028 will be the subject of a landfill master plan now underway.
One idea is to convert it to a green energy park, with an effort to locate new industries to areas west and north of the landfill to use energy from such a park. The study, to be done by Barton & Loguidice Engineers, will build upon a 2011 study by Delta Development Group. That suggested the concept of a green energy park.
