After losing several officers to retirement earlier this year, Auburn police have hired three new officers to fill the void.
In January 2017, Auburn Chief of Police Shawn Butler said four officers were set to retire at the end of the month, creating a gap in the department's staff. However, due to a break in police academies and training, the city manager and civil service commission had approved "lateral transfers" in which officers would join APD from other departments.
