When a winter storm dumped 7 feet of snow in western New York more than two years ago, Gov. Andrew Cuomo criticized the National Weather Service and said the state needed more weather stations to better predict major storms. The comments about the nation’s lead weather agency drew criticism from meteorologists and Al Roker of NBC’s “Today Show.” Since then, he’s avoided assessments of weather forecasts when responding to floods, snowstorms or windstorms.
Until now.
During a visit to hard-hit Oneida County Wednesday, Cuomo said the initial forecast called for the winter storm to hit New York, particularly downstate areas. Much of Long Island and New York City was under a blizzard warning based on the National Weather Service’s forecast.
