A report released by credit monitoring agency Morningstar identifies 39 JCPenney locations it says are at "high risk" of closing; among them is the location at DestinyUSA in Syracuse. J.C. Penney announced last month it will close anywhere from 130 to 140 stores as well as two distribution centers over the next several months as it aims to improve profitability in the era of online shopping.
The report by Morningstar outlines 39 J.C. Penney locations that it says are "the most at risk" of closing, saying those locations have seen "below-average tenant sales". The J.C. Penney at Destiny USA is listed as one of the 39 locations Morningstar says is at risk of closing. According to Morningstar's report, the Syracuse J.C. Penney's lease expires in the fall of 2020.
