On Tuesday, a Canandaigua man accused of raping a woman and threatening her with a weapon was facing life in prison. On Wednesday morning, Alexander Kuras left the Ontario County Jail a free man.
“I woke up thinking I was going to prison from 50 years to life,” Kuras said after court. “And I’m off. I was innocent, I told them I was innocent. They wouldn’t let me go, I fought it, I beat the system. Kuras, 30, pleaded guilty to criminal contempt and a few misdemeanor charges in the case. The most serious rape charges, including predatory sexual assault, were dropped after testimony from the victim was found to be untrue.
