An off-duty Canandaigua police officer is credited with saving the life of a neighbor who was trapped inside a burning home in Waterloo.
Officer Michael Felice was recognized with a Meritorious Service Award for his actions at the home of his neighbor.
Felice, who is a former volunteer firefighter in Waterloo, said he was outside at the time when he saw smoke coming from the home.
“I figured somebody needed help,” Felice said.
According to the Waterloo Fire Department, crews arrived at the home Feb. 22 and found heavy smoke showing from multiple locations of the house. Firefighters entered the building and began searching the home.
