Design process for CNY tourism center in Auburn begins with city council approval

City and state officials are moving forward with a Brooklyn architectural firm as the lead designers of the Central New York Regional Welcoming Center.

The Auburn City Council voted unanimously Thursday to authorize a contract with nArchitects to design what has been proposed as an approximately 10,000-square-foot facility. The project will be sited in the South Street parking lot across from the YMCA.

The city of Auburn and the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation are cooperating on project development. The overall cost of design services led by nArchitects amounts to $1,049,512.60. The initial design phase will be covered by a $579,500 state grant, which includes a $289,750 local match from the city of Auburn.
