Two Wayne-Finger Lakes basketball teams moved on to the championship round of sectionals on Tuesday night.
The #1 seed Mynderse Lady Blue Devils and head coach Jerry Anderson will go for his second sectional title on Saturday night when they face #2 seed Wayland-Cohocton at Rush-Henrietta High School on Saturday at 5:00 pm. Way-Co is coached by former Mynderse girls head coach Al Best and eliminated Mynderse in the semifinals last season.
Mynderse advanced out of the semis with a 50-43 win over the Hornell Red Raiders at Honeoye Falls-Lima HS. The Blue Devils opened up a 5 point first quarter lead before heading to halftime up just two, 28-26. Then, after holding the Red Raiders to just five 3rd quarter points, the Devils would hold on for the 7 point win.
FL1 Sports All-Wayne-Finger Lakes first teamer, junior Heidi Miller, would lead the way with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Madison Barnett scored 10 points and pitched in with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Hornell was led by Kira Buxton who scored 22 points.
The #2 seed Wayne Eagles will play for a sectional championship against Wilson on Saturday afternoon in Fairport after holding on to defeat #6 seed Monroe on Tuesday night, 53-49.
