State workers earning more than $100,000 a year grew by nearly 10 percent last year, state records show. All but a few of the top 100 earners worked at the state university system or at its teaching hospitals.
The top earner was Carlos Pato, the dean of the Downstate Medical Center, who earned $748,991 in 2016, records obtained through a Freedom of Information request to the state Comptroller’s Office showed. Nearly 33,000 state workers had gross pay exceeding $100,000, up 19 percent compared with 2014, the records showed.
