Victory house fire claims the life of family dog

A family dog died in a house fire that took about 45 firefighters to extinguish in the town of Victory Wednesday afternoon.

Crews from Red Creek, Victory, Cato, Conquest, Wolcott, and Fair Haven responded to the blaze around 4:02 p.m. at 12742 Coleman Road. Lonny Drake, past chief of the Red Creek Fire Department, said no civilians or firefighters were hurt.

While the fire is still under investigation, Drake said the origin appears to be in a 15-foot by 20-foot addition to the back of the two-story wood frame house. Crews were able to keep the fire contained to that section, and Drake said he believes the main part of the house may not be a total loss.
