Ontario County officials ‘thrilled’ by tax growth

An economic indicator that is up less than 1 percent is hardly cause for celebration. Ontario County officials, however, are calling an increase in fourth-quarter sales tax revenue for 2016 good news. Revenue increased .79 percent from the fourth quarter of 2015.

“We are thrilled to see growth, even if it is small growth,” said County Administrator Mary Krause. “We keep a watchful eye on sales tax revenue and things that affect it, including retail sales and gas prices.” Payments to municipalities in the county were made last week. That includes approximately $815,000 to the city of Geneva and about $1.1 million to the city of Canandaigua.
