On Wednesday around 8:07 am crews were called to State Route 21 in Hopewell for the report of a two car crash.
Deputies say that a 2003 Ford sedan, which was operated by Timothy S. Scherer, 18, of Manchester was northbound on Route 21 and rear ended a 2010 Chevrolet pickup operated by CL Binnert, 32, of Rochester.
Canandaigua Ambulance responded to the scene, and Binnert was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital for a cut above his eye. No one else was injured in the crash.
Deputies say that Scherer failed to slow down enough as Binnert slowed for a reduced speed zone on Route 21 causing the crash. They also note that Scherer fell asleep at the wheel, which caused him not to slow down.
Scherer was issued traffic tickets for unsafe tires and uninspected motor vehicle.
