77-year-old man fell asleep at the wheel in SR 21 crash

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 77-year-old man fell asleep at the wheel, which resulted in his vehicle exiting the roadway on State Route 21 near Johnson Road around 9 am on Friday.

Deputies say Ralph E. Miller, 77, of Canandaigua was operating his vehicle on State Route 21 — heading south — when he fell asleep, causing the vehicle to travel off the southwest shoulder of the highway.

The vehicle eventually struck some small brush and trees after crossing over Johnson Road, as well.

He was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment of back pain. No tickets were issued.

The Shortsville Fire Department assisted at the scene.
