January warm up ahead for the Finger Lakes

Temperatures have been staying above normal all of this week, but it certainly hasn’t been terribly warm.

That will change over the next few days as temperatures warm from the 30s, which is 5-10 degrees above normal, into the 50s, which is more like 20-25 degrees above normal. Thursday will again see temperatures primarily stuck in the 30s. Skies will remain cloudy with a slight west wind becoming calm by this evening. As a result, temperatures will fluctuate very little over the course of the day.

Temperatures should drop into the upper 20s tonight as the clouds thin out and break up some. A south wind will also develop overnight. A little sun will be possible early Friday, but the south wind will pump warmer air into the area. Look for temperatures well into the 40s on Friday.

Near record warmth is expected on Saturday as southerly winds continue to import warm air. Some breaks of sunshine will only help boost temperatures. Many areas will reach the mid 50s Saturday afternoon. Sunday will be a touch cooler, but highs should still be in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. Cooler weather is possible early next week.
