It was more than 40 years ago, but Mary Linehan clearly remembers the day her son brought home a trumpet for the first time.
“When kids first pick up a trumpet, it’s not something where they can just blow and get something out of it that sounds like music, but Christopher picked it up and you could hear something,” said Linehan, a Phelps resident. “It wasn’t just noise. It was music.”
Little did she know that one day, her son would become a gifted musician and join a pair of elite military bands. On Friday, Sgt. Major Christopher Roussey will play his trumpet at the 58th presidential inauguration — the seventh one he will be part of.
