Garbage truck, car collide in Penn Yan; three seriously injured, one airlifted to Strong

The Penn Yan Police Department reports that on Tuesday at 8:54 am they were called to the intersection of Clinton Street and Hamilton Street.

Police say that Bret Cofer, of Rushville was headed east on Clinton Street when it was hit near the front door and spun around by a Casella Waste garbage truck that was headed north on Hamilton Street.

Cofer’s passenger, who was identified as Deanna Dunning was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital via Mercy Flight for multiple injuries — including several to her back.

The rear seat passenger, Barbara Ruble, was also transported to Strong Hospital for treatment of a chest injury. The driver of the garbage truck was transported to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital for a back injury.

The driver of the garbage truck was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.
