Car slides off road, strikes utility pole at SR 14/318 intersection in Phelps

On Sunday around 4:39 pm deputies in Ontario County responded to a one car property damage accident at the intersection of State Route 318 and 14 in Phelps.

Deputies say the operator, Brenna Lee, 21, of Newark, was traveling west on Route 318 when she attempted to stop at a red light with Route 14.

Lee’s vehicle began to slide on the snow covered road and the vehicle went off the north shoulder of the roadway striking a utility pole.

Electrical wires from the pole snapped and fell onto the car and across both roads. Fire Department personnel were able to get Lee out of the vehicle and she did not sustain any serious injury from the accident, according to deputies.

She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The intersection remained shut down for a few hours while NYSEG crews worked to restore power in that area, and while they replaced the utility pole.

Lee was issued a traffic ticket for failure to reduce speed.
