Canandaigua PD: Man saved after attempting to take his own life at stalled hotel structure

The Canandaigua Police Department reports that on Thursday at approximately 1:45 pm officers were called to the area of Lakeshore Drive where a hotel development project has been stalled for several months for the report of suicidal subject.

Officers located a 21-year-old male on the second floor of the structure located at 205 Lakeshore Drive, formerly Steamboat Landing, where a male was on the edge of the building and had a chain attached to his neck and the structure.

Attempts to verbally engage the male were not successful and upon approaching the male — he attempted to then thrust himself from the structure.

Officers on scene were able to prevent the male’s attempts and after a brief struggle, brought the male to a safe area within the structure.

The male was not identified and was removed by members of the Canandaigua Fire Department and was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital for treatment and an evaluation.

The Canandaigua Ambulance and Ontario County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
