When Dennis Kehoe came to Wayne County in 1979 to begin his legal career, the furthest thing from his mind was the thought of one day becoming a county judge. “I never even considered it,” he said during a recent interview. “It was one of those places that only a few people get to be, and I didn’t expect to be one of them.”
As it turns out, that day did come — in 1995. Now, 21 years later, the man who has become one of the most respected jurists in not only Wayne County but the entire Finger Lakes region is stepping down after reaching the state’s mandatory retirement age of 70.
