On Tuesday a Penn Yan woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after staff at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital alerted Penn Yan Police that an intoxicated driver may be getting back on the road.
Officers say that they arrested Teresa A. Swanson, 47, of Penn Yan after a complaint of an intoxicated female in the parking lot of the hospital was reported.
They say Swanson drove to the hospital to visit a relative and while speaking with hospital staff — they were concerned that she would drive away in an intxociated condition. She did leave the hospital and was found walking south on Liberty Street. She had a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person, which resulted in several field sobriety tests being conducted.
She submitted to a breath test, which showed a blood-alcohol content of .24 percent — three times the legal limit.
Swanson was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.
The charges will be answered in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
