Geneva man indicted in April shooting on Linden St.

The Geneva Police Department says they’ve made an arrest in the April shooting, which took place on the corner of Linden and Seneca Streets.

The shooting took place on April 29th around 1 am, according to officers.

According to the department, Nelson F. Mateo Jr., 21, of Geneva was arrested and is being held on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 secured bond.

He was arrested on an indictment warrant, which was issued in Ontario County Court. Meteo was charged with first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Lt. Eric Heieck, of the Geneva Police Department says that over the course of the last seven months, investigators have reviewed hours of video, phone records, and police tips — as well as witness statements — which led to the indictment.

The victim, 24-year-old Aleem J. Whitfield was shot in the leg once and transported to Geneva General Hospital. He was initially reported as not being cooperative with police.

Heieck also reports that Mateo was already in custody at the Ontario County Jail on an unrelated unlawful imprisonment charge from a September 7th arrest in Geneva.
