Two hospitalized after crash in Hopewell; Canandaigua man charged with DWI

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that they responded to a personal injury motor vehicle accident on County Road 4 in the Town of Hopewell.

Deputies say that Lucile Mallard, 71, of Geneva was traveling west on County Road 4 and Samuel F. Delforte, 24, of Canandaigua was traveling south on Smith Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign located at the intersection with County Road 4.

Delforte’s vehicle was struck by Mallard’s vehicle causing her to lose control and exit the highway on the north side of the roadway. She complained of right ankle pain and was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital by Canandaigua Ambulance.

Delforte was also transported to F. F. Thompson Hospital after complaining about pain in his side. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to police.

The Hopewell Fire Department responded to the scene. Delforte would eventually be arrested for driving while intoxicated after an investigation into the accident. He was issued two traffic tickets for driving while intoxicated, as well as failing to stop at a stop sign.

He will answer the charges in Hopewell Town Court.
