Honeoye Falls man charged with DWI after crashing into telephone pole on 5&20

Deputies in Ontario County report that on November 23rd at approximately 1:32 am they responded to the Town of Canandaigua for a car into a telephone pole.

The accident occurred on State Route 5&20 west of McCann Road. Deputies say that an investigation into the incident revealed that Ryan A. VanVoorhis, 22, of Honeoye Falls was operating a 2004 Chrysler 300 westbound when he traveled off the north side of the roadway, striking a pole head on causing it to sheer off at the ground and land on top of the vehicle.

VanVoorhis was uninjured as result of the accident. However, deputies discovered that he was intoxicated and was ultimately arrested for driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and operating a motor vehicle while using a mobile phone.

He was also issued traffic tickets and will answer the charges in Canandaigua Town Court at a later date. RG&E responded and the roadway was temporarily shut down for several hours while crews worked to replace the pole.

East Bloomfield Fire Department also responded to the accident, which took several hours to clean up.
