Victim in fatal Thruway crash near Exit 41 ID’d; others hospitalized at Strong

One identity has been released in the fatal accident involving a tractor-trailer and car on the Thruway that happened around 8:30 pm on Monday.

State Police report that a 2006 Toyota Corolla spun out of control causing a 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer to strike it on the driver’s side.

The passenger in the back seat was identified as Valentin Ramirez, 31, of Sheldon, Vermont. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials. The operator of the Carolla, as well as the individual in the passenger seat — were both transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with head injuries.

Their vehicle came to rest in the median after being struck by the tractor-trailer. The pair sent to Strong Memorial Hospital were not identified, but were said to be 27- and 29-years-old respectively. None of the individuals in the Carolla were New York residents.

The operator of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the accident. As of now, police say there are no criminal charges pending. They are currently waiting on a toxicology report, which if comes back clean, will likely result in the accident being attributed to poor weather conditions.
