Waterloo board faces new challenge with police chief search

The retirement of longtime Police Chief Doyle Marquart has put the Village Board in uncharted territory.

“Those of us on this board have never had to deal with this before because Doyle had been with us so long,” Mayor Ted Young said at Monday’s meeting, alluding to Marquart’s 38 years in charge of the village force; he retired Oct. 31. “We’ve never had to search for a new police chief. This is a whole new issue. As we work through it, we have full confidence in the department.”
