Sheriff David Gould reports that last Thursday, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into an allegation that an adult male from Syracuse had been engaging in inappropriate online contact with a 12-year-old child from Cayuga County. As a result of that investigation, 25-year-old Joshua E. Mauro of 209 ½ Lawrence Avenue in Syracuse was arrested on Monday for disseminating indecent materials to minors in the first degree.
The investigation revealed that, during the summer of 2016, Mauro had been using several different online platforms to engage in sexual chat and other communication with the Cayuga County child including the exchange of sexually graphic images and videos.
Mauro was arraigned in the Town of Owasco Court and committed to the Cayuga County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.
