What are Prisoner’s Rights?

When an individual commits a crime that is serious enough to send them to jail, they lose their right to freedom. But that doesn’t mean that they lose all of their rights.

The New York State Commission of Correction (SCOC) is responsible for outlining and enforcing laws that detail certain rights prisoners have, such as the right to visitation and freedom to follow any religion. The SCOC is also in charge of ensuring that each county’s jail facilities meet the minimum standards set by law.
