Seneca Falls woman killed in West River Road collision

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Wednesday evening at 5:00 pm, Seneca County Deputies responded to tractor trailer-car motor vehicle accident on West River Road, just west of Knauss Road, in the Town of Fayette.

Sheriff’s deputies report that a 1994 GMC Tractor trailer operated by Fredrick Jensen, age 72 of 1073 Marshall Road in Waterloo, was pulling out of a bean field on the north side of the road heading east when a 2009 Dodge Caliber heading west operated by Floyd Jones, age 87 of 40 Green Street in Seneca Falls, struck the rear wheels of Jensen’s trailer.

The front driver’s side of the Dodge collided with the tractor trailer’s rear tire and axle and came to rest facing south east on the north side of the road.

The front passenger of the Dodge, Catherine Olmstead, age 55 of 144 Fall Street in Seneca Falls, was killed on impact and pronounced dead on the scene by Seneca County Coroner Deb Kelley. Olmstead was not wearing a safety belt according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Mr. Jones was flown by LifeNet to Strong Hospital for face and head injuries.

The rear passenger of the Dodge, Samuel Santiago, age 33 of Seneca Falls, was taken by North Seneca ambulance to Strong Hospital for a hip injury.

The driver of the Tractor trailer was uninjured.

The Seneca County’s Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police, North Seneca Ambulance, Life Net and Border City Fi and Waterloo Fire Departments. Deputies report the investigation is continuing.
