Lawmaker questions Tompkins Human Rights Office

A proposed amendment to cut the Office of Human Rights from the 2017 Tompkins County budget has caused concern in the community. The proposal, put forward Oct. 6 by legislator Mike Sigler, R-Lansing, was quickly withdrawn but Sigler said he still thinks there needs to be a “dramatic change” in the Office of Human Rights, at 120 W. State St. Cutting the entire office, as Sigler proposed, would save the county about $320,000 in the 2017 budget.
