Waterloo board bids farewell to police chief

Joking that he’s not kidding and “really is going out the door,” Doyle Marquart was recognized by the Village Board Monday for his 38 years as police chief. His last day will be Oct. 31 — some 38 years after he was hired to head the village police force. In his final Village Board meeting, Marquart gave his last monthly report. When the agenda was completed, Mayor Ted Young said he “saved the best for last” and called Marquart up to accept a plaque for his service.
