On Friday night, motorists were directed to avoid the area of State Route 96 from Pratt Road to State Route 21 due to a serious car accident. The call came in around 7:11 pm and the stretch of roadway remained closed for multiple hours as crews worked at the scene.
Deputies with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office say that they responded to the area of Pratt Road and State Route 96 along with Manchester Fire Department, as well as Shortsville and Finger Lakes Ambulance after a 42-year-old Rochester man, who was traveling east on Route 96 crossed over the center line in his 2013 Chevy Silverado — striking a 2003 Subaru Impreza head on.
Deputies say that Ashely Bleier and her passenger Robert Mason had to be extricated from the vehicle — and the pair were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with trauma to their lower extremities.
The victims were both 24-years-old. Mason resided in Middlesex and Bleier was a resident of Stanley, according to deputies.
Deputies tell us that Abel Rico, 42, of Rochester was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Rico has a previous conviction of driving while intoxicated in the last ten years, according to deputies, which make this DWI charge a felony.
He was also charged with reckless driving and failure to keep right, according to investigators. He was committed to the Ontario County Jail on pre-arraignment detention and will answer the charges at a later date in Manchester Town Court.
Deputies say that additional charges are possible.
